The City of Cornwall developed its first waterfront plan in 1989, with a significant update 2007. Mehak, Kelly supported thinc design in preparing the 2019 plan. It provides a vision for the future of the City’s waterfront and aligns its objectives with those of the newly adopted Official Plan, the Provincial Policy Statement, and other local plans and guidelines.
The Plan was developed using an inclusive consultation process involving several open houses, a design charrette, stakeholder interviews, and online resident surveys. The resulting Plan reflects the community’s interest in a waterfront for both residents and visitors, the future disposition of federal lands, and an overarching concept that capitalizes on a continuous waterfront path, reinforces the central focus of parkland near the civic centre, and anticipates additional residential and commercial development in the urban area north of the waterfront. It is intended as a living document, providing a road map for implementing improvements over the next 25 years. It identifies 77 recommendations organized by geographic area and provides costing for both design and capital improvements for annual budgeting purposes.
