About This Project

Mehak, Kelly prepared this Master Plan, which addressed the need for improvements to programs/events, indoor and outdoor facilities, and service delivery to the community. With a population of 4,500, Asphodel-Norwood is a 30-minute drive from the City of Peterborough – to which residents travel for certain recreation services. A key theme of the Master Plan was identifying needs and opportunities to enhance the availability of recreation services within the Township.
Asphodel-Norwood’s municipal recreation infrastructure includes a Community Centre and Park with an arena, multi-purpose room, lit ball diamond and a range of unscheduled outdoor facilities including a skatepark and splash pad. This indoor/outdoor facility is located in close proximity to other community-serving facilities including a secondary school and the Norwood Fairgrounds, which is the home of the Norwood Fall Fair – an historic, annual event that draws approximately 40,000 attendees. Collectively, these facilities are envisioned to increasingly function as a community recreation hub.
The Master Plan confirmed demand for adding a weight room / cardio fitness space to the Community Centre and identified other opportunities to optimize the use of assets throughout the Township for recreation programs/activities for all residents. It recommended introducing a municipal position to facilitate program/event development through community-based and satellite service providers.
